Nellore: Union Minister for Civil Aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju said India is the fastest growing market in the world aviation wise and the Centre wants to give a thrust to economy through development of small airports. This will help in boosting rural economy.

He visited Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana’s residence on Monday and expressed his condolences. Narayana lost his son recently in a road accident in Hyderabad.Interacting with media persons at Narayana Medical College, he said there was some delay in some rural domestic airports because of minor issues like land acquisition and others. He said the projects will be accelerated once these issues are addressed.

He categorically stated that aviation contributes to economy and it provides direct and huge indirect jobs to local people and said their government has included aviation as part of an effective strategy improving rural income. The idea behind initiating small airports in rural areas is not only for passenger services but also for freight movement that fetches the airports economically, he added.

He accepted that there were some land issues for Nellore airport and would be sorted out shortly. Further, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology & Earth Sciences Y Sujana Chowdary also visited Minister Narayana’s residence and consoled his family members. Former Union Minister P Lakshmi, Tirupati MP Dr Varaprasada Rao, TDP senior leaders from Telangana M Narasimulu, Nama Nageswara Rao and others visited Narayana’s house.
