Rajamahendravaram: Sub-collector of Rajamahendravaram Vijaya Krishnan said that award enquiry in Purushottapatnam land acquisition was being done according to provisions in Land Acquisition (LA) Act – 2013. Stating that compensation would be paid to farmers as per the Act, she said that the process of acquisition would be completed by May 29 and would hand over the lands to irrigation department.

Addressing farmers at Chinna Kondepudi village, near here on Wednesday, the sub-collector said that the government has to acquire 206.34 acres from 335 farmers in Purushothapatnam, Nagampalli, Vangalapudi and Chinna Kondepudi villages.
“From last December, the revenue authorities including district collector held several rounds of meetings with farmers on land acquisition. Good amount of compensation will be paid, if the farmers come forward voluntarily to part with their lands,” she added.

In first phase, 234 farmers came forward and gave 132.80 acres and the government has paid Rs 25.48 crore towards compensation to them. “Farmers of Nagampalli and Vangalapudi villages, who gave their lands, got Rs.28 lakh per acre. However, those who are reluctant to give their lands in the beginning and now ready to handover are going to get Rs 19 lakh per acre as per LA Act,” she noted.

Vijaya Krishnan made it clear that those, who have given consent to part with their lands in advance were benefited with higher compensation and all farmers who gave consent in later stage would be paid Rs 19 lakh. “Their cases will be referred to competent authority - a retired Judge for more compensation if any, for structures, bore wells and land to land,” she informed.
