Visakhapatnam: The city police will have a tough time in managing the traffic and even regulate the pedestrians during the three day Mahanadu beginning here from May 27. The venue, Andhra University Engineering College grounds is located between the National Highway, and the main entrance will be Maddilapalem, the busiest junction in the city.

There are two other entrance points from the south one from the Three Town police station and the other Rural SP residence road.Around 20,000 people are expected to participate apart from the Ministers, MLAs and senior party leaders. The police said 4,000 vehicles with valid passes will struggle to get entry. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will be camping here for three days at the Circuit House which is not far from the venue.

ADCP (Traffic) K Mahendra Patrudu said that the major challenge for them is to handling Madilapalem Junction for the three days. Admitting that there would be traffic clogs during the three day event, he said the police advised the motorists not to use the road from Siripuram to Pedawaltair and from Rama Talkies to Madilapalem for the three days.

“We will be closing the road between Maddilapalem and Three Town police entry for three days and will allow only those having passes,’’ Patrudu said. He said 800 police personnel, including officers, will be on traffic duty for Mahanadu and some personnel have been deputed from the various parts of the state for traffic regulation, the ADCP said. Since the weather is hostile, the traffic police will work on shifts.

The police will be creating a diversion at Hanumanthawaka for party leaders and cadres coming from Vizianagaram and Srikakulam and cadres coming from Anakapalli will have to take CR Reddy statue road and move to the venue through the Collector’s camp office. Commissioner of Police T Yoganand briefing the media here on Thursday said passes have been classified into four categories in which parking lots have been mentioned.
