Ongole: Ongole MP Y V Subba Reddy wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Roads, Transport and Shipping, on Sunday demanding them take a decision in favour of the Ramayapatnam port.
The MP in the letter, said: “The report submitted by the Technical Committee appointed by the Union government as part of its maritime policy in 2012 is in favour of Ramayapatnam port and ship building centre.”

The committee said that Ramayapatnam is the most viable place for the port in the coastal area. As the Prakasam district is a backward district, the port and ship building centre at Ramayapatnam helps in setting up of many industries in the area thus generating employment opportunities for the locals, he pointed out.

The port helps in exporting the granite, aqua, and other mineral products from the district and helps in saving transport expenses, he said. There is ample government land for the construction of the port with natural advantage of the depth in the sea, he said.
