Home Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa said the team of Andhra students who returned after Mount Everest expedition will inspire other students to attempt such adventures in good numbers in the days to come. Vijayawada: Home Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa said the team of Andhra students who returned after Mount Everest expedition will inspire other students to attempt such adventures in good numbers in the days to come. He interacted with the team along with Minister for Social Welfare and Empowerment, Tribal Welfare and Empowerment Nakka Ananda Babu at the airport here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister showered praises on the students who glorified Andhra Pradesh with their adventure. The selection of students for the expedition started in October 26. As many as 69 Intermediate students of tribal and social welfare colleges were picked up. They were trained at Kethanakonda in Krishna district in different aspects including trekking and climbing. Among them 30 were selected.


The youth welfare department invited qualified youth and selected another 25 candidates. The selected students were taken to Ladakh where they finished 10-day training in extremely harsh weather conditions (minus 30 degrees C).

Earlier, on April 8, a team of 19 students went to Kathmandu in Nepal. By April 12 they landed in Tibet’s capital city Lhasa from there they started the expedition. Between April 13 and 22, all the 14 of the team trekked 29,029 feet to achieve the feat. They returned to Andhra Pradesh on May 31.
