A special team of police arrested two members of a gang, who were involved in over 24 house breakings, bike lifting and snatching cases since 2013 in the city, on Wednesday.The arrested were identified as Gangi Narasinga Rao (33) and Gollavelli Banesh (35), both residents of Pendurthi area in the city.

The childhood friends committed 17 offences under Pendurthi police station limits, six in Gopalapatnam and one in the airport region.DCP (Law and Order- Zone- II) T Ravi Kumar Murthy told reporters that both were school dropouts and worked on a daily wage for a living. They got addicted to vices and began committing crime from 2013. For the past three years, the duo has been evading arrest and on Wednesday they were caught during a routine vehicle check.

After committing crimes, Narasinga Rao purchased a motorbike in 2014. They used the motorbike as a getaway vehicle and for which they did not get it registered, fearing easy identification, especially while committing a snatching offence, the DCP said.

On Wednesday, during the vehicle check, the police noticed that the speedometer indicated that the vehicle ran for over 50,000 km but was still not registered. When questioned they incoherent replies and after further interrogation, they told the truth. The duo robbed over 1,100 gms of gold ornaments and the police so far were able to recover about 530 grams and two motorcycles.
