The alleged misbehaviour of TDP leader with Mahila Congress district president Sridevi snowballing into a major controversy with opposition parties rallying behind the woman leader demanding registering the case against the TDP leader for his prosecution. Tirupati: The alleged misbehaviour of TDP leader with Mahila Congress district president Sridevi snowballing into a major controversy with opposition parties rallying behind the woman leader demanding registering the case against the TDP leader for his prosecution. Leaders of CPM, CPI, Congress, Lok Satta, RPS, RIF and Mala Mahandu strongly condemned the TDP leader’s misbehaviour.
On Tuesday, these parties joined in observing a dharna to press the police to register the case filed by Sridevi in East police station on June 23 immediately after she was allegedly insulted in public by Sanjay.
Highlights:
- Sanjay, nephew of TDP MLA M Suguna, caught the plait of Sridevi and dragged her in public
- Sridevi is Mahila Congress district president
- Incident took place on June 23 when Sridevi staging a protest in support of municipal health workers
Sridevi along with a group of women Congress workers and activists of opposition parties joined in the dharna by the health workers in the municipal corporation against the move of the corporation to vacate them from the Scavenger’s colony for taking up a multi-storeyed complex after demolition of the fifty-year-old building in a dilapidated condition, fearing that they will be deprived of their dwelling in the name of a modern housing complex.
The health workers squatted on the road and also lay themselves blocking the car of MLA, who came to inaugurate the temporary houses built for shifting the health workers from the houses in the Scavenger’s colony and the opposition party activists including Sridevi stood in support of them surrounding the car of the MLA.
Even as the protest going on and police were trying to evict the health workers, Sanjay who was present along with local TDP leaders for the inauguration of the new temporary houses allegedly caught the plait of Sridevi and dragged her in public.
He left even as Sridevi and others vociferously demanding the police present to take action on Sanjay. Sanjay is the nephew of TDP MLA M Suguna.
CPM district secretary K Kumar Reddy and others demanded the prosecution of Sanjay for insulting a woman leader, who has been relentlessly fighting for the cause of women in the city while Rayalaseema Intellectual Forum (RIF) convener M Purushottam Reddy said that it is not wise for a ruling party leader acting in a rude manner with a responsible opposition leader.
Kumar Reddy criticised the police bowing to pressure from ruling party leaders seeking Sridevi to approach the court for registering the case instead of taking action against TDP leader, who insulted a woman in the presence of MLA, officials and other public.
It is pertinent to note that Sridevi unsuccessfully contested as Congress nominee against TDP MLA Suguna in the by-election for Tirupati Assembly seat.Speaking to The Hans India, Sridevi said that she along with the support of opposition parties will resort to a protest before the SP office if police did not file the FIR based on her complaint against Sanjay. She said though the incident of assault on her took place on June 23 police remain unmoved even after her she lodged a complaint on the same day.
