Mayor lists out Vijayawada Municipal Corporation achievements
Development works worth Rs1,000 crore were taken up in the city during the last one year under various schemes, said Mayor Koneru Sreedhar. He said the storm water drain works worth Rs 461 crore are underway and the civic body had spent Rs186 crore for successfully conducting the Krishna Pushkaralu last year.

Addressing a press conference at his chambers to mark the completion of three years rule of TDP, he said the financial position of the VMC was very bad three years ago with loans of Rs 350 crore and the civic body could not pay salaries to the staff for six months.
He said the financial position gradually changed since the TDP took over the council and many development works were taken up. He said the annual tax revenue shot up from Rs 70 crore to Rs 90 crore from 2013-14 to 2016-17 due to the streamlining of tax collections and improvement of the quality of service.
He reminded that the tax rates were not increased by the civic body in three years. He listed out the development works taken up by the VMC last year.
He said the VMC took up outfall drain works worth Rs 47.52 crore to divert the Budameru flood waters, Rs 55 crore was spent for the construction of drinking water reservoirs in the city, VMC had spent Rs 16 crore for utilisation of water filtration plant at Gangireddula Dibba,
Rs 40.40 crore was spent for development of underground drainage with 13th Finance Commission funds, Rs 9.97 crore being spent for the construction of NTR Shopping Complex top floors, Rs10 crore is being spent for the construction of Shadi Khana in One Town, new VMC office building is being constructed at a cost of Rs 32 crore.
Mayor Sreedhar said development works were taken up with MP grants, MLA grants, State and Central government assistance. He said the Storm Water Management project was started with Rs 461 crore will be very useful to the city. He said MP Kesineni Srinivas, three MLAs Jaleel Khan, Bonda Umamaheswara Rao and Gadde Rammohan are extending cooperation for the development of the city.
