Ongole: When the villagers know the adversaries of being bad, they automatically work to thrive for a good village. The people in Pathepuram village in Prakasam district are such villagers and their efforts won their village, the title- ‘Litigation-free village’ from the district judge.

Pathapuram is a village in Santamagulur mandal with a population of around 1300 people. The public are farmers and daily wage workers and they celebrate all the festivals together.

Though most of the villagers are peace loving, the situation in the village got better after Kolli Rattayamma got elected as the sarpanch.

As the villagers are hardworking but earn a meagre amount as wage, the villagers decided to not allow any wine shop open in Pathapuram. Rattayamma said, “In our village, we do not like quarrels and want to settle any issue by talking to each other. There are some people, who are alcoholic, but if any issue arises by them, we settle it in the next morning. The family elders are responsible to keep the peace in the family and then in the village.”

Santamaguluru SI Y Nagaraju said, “For the past four to five years, we didn’t book any case from Pathapuram. There is no crime in the village and no civil disputes that require the intervention of courts.”

Upon receiving information about the Pathapuram village, the district judge ordered the paralegal volunteer to verify the facts. BV Sagar, the paralegal volunteer, said, “We have spoken to the villagers surrounding the villages of Pathapuram and local police for the information. They confirmed it as a model village.”

On receiving information from the sources, the district judge announced Pathapuram as ‘Litigation-free village’ in the National Lok Adalat on Saturday. Presenting the award to the sarpanch, judge MG Priyadarsini said, “The village has become an inspiration to the surrounding villages by not involving single dispute.

There is no case registered from the villagers since 2014 and we are now announcing the village as a litigation-free village. We expect the villagers continue the spirit in the future also.”

T Raja Venkatadri, secretary of the District Legal Services Authority also appreciated the villagers for not going to police station and courts.
