Tirupati: Sri City has been awarded Indian Green Building Council’s (IGBC) prestigious Green City Gold Rating in recognition of its excellence at national level. Sri City thus becomes one of the first few greenfield cities in the country to achieve the IGBC’s green city rating. At the IGBC's Green Building Congress-2017 held in Jaipur on Thursday evening, Sri City President (Operations) Satish Kamat received the rating certificate and the scroll of honour.

IGBC Chairman Prem C Jain, Chairman of World Green Building Council, Tai Lee Siang, Nellore District Collector R Mutyala Raju and other dignitaries of global and Indian industries were present on the occasion.

Expressing happiness on the unique achievement, Sri City founder and Managing Director Ravindra Sannareddy said that IGBC recognition reiterates the commitment for setting up sustainable eco-systems and new urbanism, with a focus on ‘walk to work’ concept. Sri City has already embarked on this path in providing a ‘clean, green, breathe-easy’ industrial-urban agglomeration, built on the dictum of ‘work, live, learn and play,’ right from the design stage.

In the same ceremony, Collector Mutyala Raju received the IGBC Gold rating, which was awarded for Nellore district in recognition of the development works at Puttamraju Kandrika village. It may be recalled that the village was adopted by the cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

With a total footprint of over 7,500 plus acres area, Sri City, an integrated business city, is one of the first few greenfield cities in the country to achieve the IGBC’s Green City Gold rating. IGBC green cities’ rating system is the first of its kind rating in India to address environmental sustainability in emerging cities.
