Vijayawada: Advocates boycotted duty on Wednesday protesting against the attack on a woman advocate Bayana Ramani at her residence in Kothapeta under Two Town police station limits. The lawyers under the auspices of Bezawada Bar Association boycotted duty and took out a rally from Bar Association to Beasant Road and came back to Civil Courts.

Lawyers raised slogans against the attacks on the lawyers. Bar Association president S Krishna Murthy, secretary K Srinivasa Rao, senior lawyers Sunkara Rajendra Prasad, Ch Manmada Rao, Puppala Srinivasa Rao and others condemned the attack on the woman advocate.

They said every person has right to engage lawyer and fight a legal battle. They said it is wrong to physically attack the advocates. They demanded that a case of attempt to murder be booked against the accused rowdy sheeter Banka Siva and his associates for attacking lawyer on Tuesday. The female lawyer is recovering from injuries.

On the other hand, one of the accused’s wife Durga Bhavani met Commissioner of Police D Gautam Sawang on Wednesday and alleged that the woman advocate had been harassing her husband for many years due to property disputes. She alleged that the lawyer has been misusing her power and falsely implicating her husband in cases which were struck down by the courts.

She told the Commissioner of Police that her husband had not attacked the lawyer Ramani and demanded that he be produced in the court immediately. Earlier, the police arrested two persons in connection with the attack on advocate Ramani.
