Visakhapatnam: In order to create awareness among the college students on stress and tensions, India Youth For Society (IYFS) conducted a talk on ‘Depressed:Let-Talk’ in the city on Sunday.

Of late, suicides of the students are on the rise. Hence, the IYFS has decided to take up the issue to create awareness among parents, teaching community and others.

Speaking at the programme, former vice-chancellor of Nagarjuna University V Balamohandas said that self-help/seek support are the best concepts for the students who feel stressed or under depression.

Sangeeta Muddapu, who had gone through such experiences, shared her personal experience. When one feels emotionally and physically weak, should exercise or get occupied with books, music or arts. A book could be a good friend, she said.

Post Graduate students of Andhra University Sindhura Thadi and Jhilmi Swapnalin said that there should be moral education at the school-level to shape up the young minds. The comparison with the other students by the parents is wrong as the students suffer from inferiority complex.

Sontyana Anand Kumar, President, India Youth for Society (IYFS), said that there must be playground and sports in each school. This could help a child to have some physical exercise as sports will teach teamwork and build self-confidence.

Jagadish Kumar, Secretary, IYFS, said Future India should be mentally strong rather than giving up in life. Uday K Patta, Y Appala Reddy and Nunela Shasank also spoke.
