Tirupati: The Asthana Vidwan of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Garimella Balakrishna Prasad has achieved rare feet by contributing Keerthanas on Navagrahas.
Significantly, he was the only person after Muthuswamy Deekshitar, who contributed these type of Keerthanas on Navagrahas about 150 years ago. The CD and notation book ‘Navagrahadi Kruthimanimala’ written and composed by Balakrishna Prasad was released in Tirupati on Saturday.
The CD and book were released by Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) Vice-Chancellor Prof V Durga Bhavani, TTD’s All Projects Special Officer N Muktheswara Rao, Music department head in SPMVV Prof K Saraswathi Vasudev, Pudukkotai R Ramanathan, Pudukkotai R Krishnamurthy and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Muktheswara Rao said that there will be only a few people, who can have privilege of being Asthana Vidwan of Lord Venkateswara’s heart.
Balakrishna Prasad was one among the chosen few, he lauded. SPMVV V-C Prof Durga Bhavani said that by bringing the krithis to the reach of common people he made them to worship Navagrahas with more devotion.
The other speakers lauded him by saying that he was the contemporary lyricist and composer and invented new tunes like Vanipriya and others. He has completed 50 years of his music journey and had many disciples. He can sing 1,000 Keerthanas written by Annamacharya. He tuned 800 Annamacharya keerthanas.
There were several CDs and cassettes of his works released by the TTD. So far, he has written 400 classical krithis and 400 light music songs. He wrote several books on Keerthanas. The speakers opined that his krithis on Navagrahas should be made as inscriptions before every Navagraha mantapams, so that the future generations also can be able to know his contributions. They described him as a great composer, who contributed rare compositions.
Even those who have the basic knowledge in music can easily sing these Krithis. While thanking the dignitaries for their praises, Balakrishna Prasad was too modest in saying that he was not a great person and there were many great personalities.
He said, Amukthamalyada Sushma, who was doing PhD on his life and works was instrumental in bringing this CD and book. Pudukkotai P Peri Somyajulu, Vidwan M Sudhakar, Dr K Vandana, YVS Padmavathi, AIR Station Director Nagasuri Venugopal and others took part.
