Eluru: The South-zone Inter-Universities-level Badminton (women) tournament will be held at Sir C R Reddy Engineering College in Eluru from November 12 to 15, according to Sir CR Reddy Educational Institution governing body Chairman Kommareddy Rambabu.

Addressing media at the Administrative Office building in CRR Autonomous College on Saturday, Kommareddy Rambabu said all arrangements have been made for the tournament. He said after 40 years gap, the Sir CR Reddy institutions are conducting a big tournament. On November 12 at 9.00 am, the tournament will be inaugurated, he added.

He said about 350 players, 100 sports officials from 71 universities of six southern states are participating in the tournament. Fifteen teams from Andhra Pradesh, 23 from Tamil Nadu, 4 from Telangana, 15 from Karnataka, 12 from Kerala and one from Pondicherry will participate in the event, he stated.

Rambabu said that after the tournament, 20 members would be selected from first four teams to participate in the All India Inter-Zonal Women’s Badminton Tournament to be held at Kalinga University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

With the suggestion of badminton player Pullela Gopichand, he said three wooden courts with international standards have been constructed in Sir CRR Engineering College.

CRR Educational Institutions secretary Durga Rao, Engineering College Principal Dr G Sambasiva Rao, Andhra Pradesh Badminton Association Vice President Ramineni Rammohan participated in the media conference.
