Vijayawada: Former MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar alleged that the State government has made plans to derive benefit from the tender for Polavaram Project works.
Addressing a Meet-the-Press programme here on Sunday, he said the government hiked Rs 100 crore in the tender cost by hiding the details of contract intentionally.
He asked the Chief Minister why he was not able to ask the Centre strongly about funds for Polavaram and other pending issues of the State government which were allotted to the State in the AP Reorganisation Act.
He wondered how the Chief Minister expressed his inability to execute the works and stated that he was ready to handover them to the Centre.
He reminded that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu requested the Centre to give project execution responsibility to the State. He alleged that the Centre had stopped the Polavaram contract tenders after identifying corruption plan of the State government.
He recalled that former Chief Minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had initiated the works with his own efforts.
He wondered why the TDP government has not been able to execute Polavaram Project works even after it was accorded the status of a national project. Now the Centre should shoulder the responsibility of completing the project, he said and added that the Chief Minister should mount pressure on the Centre towards funds release and other issues.
The former MP alleged that the Chief Minister was giving priority to protecting his selfish interests instead of solving the problems of State.
He wondered how the Opposition leader could influence the neighbouring States to stop Polavaram Project when he was not in a position to control his own party legislators.
