Tirupati: Officials of the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) are determined to achieve the first rank in the Swachh Survekshan survey to be taken up by the Central government in the first week of January 2018.

The survey will focus on civic bodies which are following better sanitation practices. The temple city had bagged all India-level ninth rank in Swachh Survekshan survey held in 2017.

The civic officials are putting all efforts to improve MCT’s ranking in Swachh Survekshan survey. To achieve first rank, MCT Commissioner Ch Hari Kiran had appointed 11 special officers and deployed an additional staff to check the sanitation related works every day in pilgrim city.

In addition, Hari Kiran also appointed staff of civic body to supervise sanitation in all divisions. The focus was on making entire temple city free from open defecation. The MCT officials have purchased two dumper placer vehicles for garbage lifting. Also, procured 250 new dumper bins to collect the waste from residential colonies.

The civic staff engaged JCB machines for cleaning 100 km length drainages. Similarly, the MCT is conducting an awareness campaign on eradication of Open Defecation Free (ODF) in the city. The MCT officials are advising the hoteliers and restaurant owners to allow the public to use washrooms or toilets.

The other measures include maintenance of public toilets with sufficient water and keeping the bathrooms and toilets clean. The MCT is already maintaining the public toilets and urinals with good condition at pilgrim moving areas like RTC central bus stand, main railway station and pilgrim complexes.

Every day, the civic employees are inspecting their respective divisions and taking photos on maintenance of sanitation and sending the same to MCT Commissioner and other higher officials. Engineering officials are engaging the water tankers to ensure availability of water in
public toilets.
