Nellore: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and noted philanthropist Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, popularly known as VPR, who failed to get Rajya Sabha seat in May 2016 from the ruling party, is now considering continuing in the opposition party by playing an active role.

Sources in the party said he had received some positive signals from YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy that he would be offered ticket in the coming elections for Rajya Sabha or some other position.

It may be recalled that Prabhakar Reddy had joined the YSRCP in December 2013 and was a sedentary member though the party designated him as the district coordinator of Nellore.

Rumours went around that he said to have met the TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh in Vijayawada a couple of years ago and expressed his interest on Rajya Sabha seat and the negotiations were also went on.

He also asked to prepare nomination papers for submitting and finally the TDP asked him to withdraw him from the poll fray. Prabhakar Reddy also confirmed that he withdrew from the contest failing to file the nomination papers as per directions of the party.

YSRCP fielded V Vijayasai Reddy, who is from Nellore district, for Rajya Sabha seat and TDP thought Prabhakar Reddy would be the right candidate from the same district and community, who earlier had shifted his loyalties to TDP from the YSRCP.

At that time, the ruling party had three seats basing on its number of legislators and the proposal of to field fourth candidate with the additional votes or majority they gain. But, out of three seats one was allocated to BJP and there were limited chances for the fourth candidate.

So, the ruling party dropped the candidate from the fray. Prabhakar Reddy had formally quit the YSRCP and not joined the TDP which was another technical problem. All these issues made him dejected and kept silent for almost couple of years not showing any interest on the ruling party.

After two years, in connection with the visit of YSRCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy as part of Praja Sankalpa Yatra, party sources hinted him that Vemireddy would be a potential candidate, who would support the party candidates in future and his presence is highly required as the elections are fast approaching.

The party sources said he would be asked to continue in the party and play an active role hereafter since his presence is highly required. So, he would likely be offered ticket in near future as an encouragement to take up activities voluntarily. He is preferred for the upcoming RS polls, sources said.
