He said that the women passengers may face problems like theft of articles, jewellery and luggage.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday, he said that the Government Railway Police (GRP) with the help of Railway Protection Force recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 48 lakh from the offenders during the past one year.

He said 23 cases of gold jewellery thefts were reported in the trains last year under the limits of Vijayawada division. He further stated that the police rescued 47 minor girls and six women from the traffickers.

Referring to creating awareness among passengers, Gandhi said 11 women RPF personnel are on duty to create awareness at the Vijayawada railway station.

He said recorded messages in three languages are being announced at the railway stations to alert women passengers. He said police are trying to prevent chain snatchings on platforms and the railway crossing.

He suggested to the women passengers travelling in AC compartments to be alert. Stating that the Toll Free number 182 is very useful to women train passengers, he asked the latter to avail the facility.
