In a tragic incident, two persons belonging to Kadapa district, who went on a  pilgrimage have accidently drowned in Tungabhadra river at Hampi in Karnataka state on Wednesday.

Proddatur (Kadapa): In a tragic incident, two persons belonging to Kadapa district, who went on a pilgrimage have accidently drowned in Tungabhadra river at Hampi in Karnataka state on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified a P Vasantha Kumar (15) of Proddatur town and Vinay Kumar of Jyothi village in Sidhavatam mandal. According to the sources, about 20 families left on a pilgrimage in a private travel bus on May 21.

They had visited Mantralayam, Goa and reached Hampi on Wednesday morning. Vasantha Kumar had entered the river to take holy dip. But, he accidently caught in whirlpool and cried loudly for help. On noticing him drowning, Vinay Kumar had jumped into the river to rescue him.

But, he also drowned. The Kadapa police brought the issue to the notice of Karnataka police officials. Rescue teams have reached the spot around 11 am. Search operations were going on when the last reports came in.
