Guntur: M Rani, a resident of Maddirala Colony in the city, who delivered a baby boy three days ago at the Government General Hospital (GGH), alleged that due to negligence of the doctors her baby boy died.

She alleged that doctors shifted their baby boy to ICU in the hospital without their knowledge. When asked, the doctors replied that their baby is underweight and facing some health complications, hence, they shifted the newborn to the ICU, she recalled. She expressed doubts that the doctors might have swapped their baby in the hospital as they never showed it to them.

Later, Rani, and their relatives staged a dharna at the GGH with the body demanding that DNA test be conducted to know biological parents of the baby boy. She demanded action against the doctors for the death. Rani and Lakshminarayana lodged a complaint with Kothapet Police Station demanding action against the doctors of the GGH.

GGH superintendent Dr DS Raju Naidu said: "We have to conduct post-mortem to know reasons for baby’s death. But parents did not agree to conduct the post-mortem. When the newborn was suffering from lungs problem, we shifted it to ICU with the approval of parents. The baby boy was put on ventilator till death and we informed the condition of the baby boy to its parents. There is no chance of baby swapping.”
