Vijayawada: Outstanding ‘Ganga’ dance ballet was showcased by young artistes under the able choreographer and noted dancer ‘Natyakala Siromani’ Rajeswari Sainath at Sidhartha Kala Peetham here on Saturday. The programme was organised by Mummaneni Subbarao Sidhartha Kala Peetham as part of its promotion of Indian culture and art forms.

The theme of the dance ballet was based on a mythological epic of Gangavataranam. Bhagiratha was a great king who brought Goddess Ganga to Earth from the heavens as river. When he was prince of Sagara Dynasty, he did penance for a thousand years on the advice of his guru to gain the release his sixty thousand great uncles from the curse of Saint Kapila which eventually led to descent of the Goddess Ganga in the form of the River Ganges, to the earth. To commemorate his efforts, the head stream of the river is called Bhagirathi, till it meets Alaknandariver at Devprayag. This river was also called as Jahnavi.

Though the storyline is thin, the choreographer designed some attractive situations like origin of Ganges, watercourse with beautiful movements. The story also tells the beauty of Ganga while coming from heaven to earth and passing through mountains and forests en-route.

The artistes including choreographer Rajeswari Sainath, Vaishnavi Yegnesh, Jayalakshmi Narayan, Sanjana Umesh, Keerhana Kannabhiram, Sreya Visvani, Srujana Valiveti, Keerthi Valiveti, Sri Harshini, Vardhini Kalluri, Sai Sruthi, Samhita Reddy and Gayatri Euuni exhibited extraordinary talent to their best and received the appreciation from the housefull auditorium.

The visuals screened during the course of the ballet were not aptly supported to the dance ballet. Lighting designed by the director was good. Other technical support like music and mike system was good.
