Chittoor: Protesting against the indifferent attitude of the official machinery of Chittoor Municipal Corporation, the residents of Sanjay Gandhi Nagar staged dharna here on Sunday demanding water supply. They raised slogans against the water supply officials of the city for not releasing water in municipal taps for the last some days.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Sunday , K Sunderamma , president , SG Nagar residents association, said that they have been facing acute drinking water shortage for the past some days and they were forced to purchase water. ``The Municipality collects water charges from us and if we fail to pay the bills, they disconnect the water supply connections. For three days in every week, we are not getting water,’’ she said with regret.

She said that all most all the residents of the colony are having white ration cards and they belong to below poverty line. She slammed that corruption has become rampant in Chittoor Municipal administration particularly in Engineering department.
Suraya Bi, a Muslim Minority of the colony said that she was forced to purchase the water from private tanks for several months due to non-supply of Municipal water.

Chittoor Municipal Commissioner C Obulesh admitted that there are certain pockets in the city which have been facing water scarcity. `` Instructions were given to the officials to supply water through tankers in problematic areas,’’ he said. He said that he instructed the Junior Engineer to sort out the drinking water problem of Sanjay Gandhi Nagar area with immediate effect.
