Parvathipuram: The World Adivasi Day was celebrated under the aegis of ITDA Parvathipuram here on Thursday. The tribal bodies from across the district participated in a meeting to discuss the tribal issues highlighting the importance of tribal culture and its conservation for the benefit of future generations.

Minister for Mines and Geology Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao inaugurated the programme. The event was celebrated with thematic stalls, distribution of 5000 tarpaulins, five power tillers, nine acres land, 221 RoFR pattas for the eligible tribals from all mandals. Besides felicitating the meritorious students and sports winners, the tribal leaders and social workers were also felicitated on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr G Lakshmisha, PO ITDA, said that education is the essential component of tribals development. Schooling improves their intellectual capacity to cope up with the developmental challenges and education is the annihilator of poverty and up keeper of human rights, he pointed out.

The event was marked by laying the foundation stone for the Tribal Community hall at Parvathipuram sanctioned by the Collector from ITDA funds at an estimated cost of 25 lakhs.
