Vijayawada: To mark the World Youth Day on August 12, the state government is conducting various competitions to youth on traditions and culture across the state.

They would also conduct awareness programmes to youth to participate in community events, disaster management during earthquakes, floods and fire accidents.

The officials of the Department of Youth Service (DYS) are gearing up to conduct 2K Run at all districts to mark the World Youth Day.

DYS Assistant Director SVDS Ramakrishna said that as many as 40 members team had been sent to Mount Kilimanjaro (MK) expedition in June 2018 and they are undergoing the last phase of training to climb the MK.

About 13,076 youth were trained all over the state in collaboration with Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) in the first-aid, the rescue operations and the disaster management and 4,614 youth were sent to other regions of the state in four phases to get acquaintance with their culture, traditions, agriculture, industries and new projects under the Inter-District Youth Exchange Programmes, said Ramakrishna.

Ramakrishna said that the state government has selected 130 candidates from all districts for the Mount Kilimanjaro expedition and would select 40 members out of 130 in phases to climb the MK in South Africa.

Basic training would be given to 130 candidates at the CVR Academy at Kethana Konda in Krishna district, training sessions would start by the end of August under DYS, he added.
