Nellore: Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana said district administration has identified 17,811 beneficiaries for the support of Rs 2.5 lakh for housing scheme. He participated in a review meeting with district officials here on Saturday.

The beneficiaries have to contribute Rs 50,000 under the scheme. Interacting with media, the Minister said water and underground drainage works in the city would conclude by March 2019 and said Rs 84 crore was sanctioned for desilting and widening of 13 canals located in the city that pose threat during monsoon flooding.

Narayana urged people residing on these canals to relocate to other areas for taking up the works. The Minister said they were taking measures to construct bridges at old check post on the Mypadu road and at railway gate near Ranganayakula Pet.

The bridges would also come up at Kondayapalem, Current Office and Vedayapalem gates for easy movement of commuters between east and western parts of the city crossing the railway track. He said they would make the city a smart one within next two years.

The Minister stated forest clearance was sought for construction of short route for the housing project being taken up at Akkacheruvupadu via Podalakur road.

The Minister said there is a provision for constructing houses under the AP Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APTIDCO) in 145 villages of the NUDA area with contribution from the beneficiaries.

He also said they had given possession certificate for 1.05 cents of land for construction of Kapu Bhavan at old municipal office in Santhapet area. He stated the the government is trying to resolve issues of BC and Ambedkar Bhavans by discussing with the higher officials of the concerned departments.

He said they had proposed to create one more HoD post in the Government Medical College and sanctioned Rs 5 lakh for construction of Stree Sakthi Bhavan.

District Collector R Mutyala Raju, Joint Collector-2 Kamala Kumari, Mayor Abdul Aziz, Municipal Commissioner Alim Basha, RDOs Arun Babu, Haritha, Suvarnamma, Sridevi and TBV Reddy, DEO Samuel, DRDA Project Director Rosemond, DWMA PD T Bapi Reddy, MEPMA PD Chiranjeevi and others were present.
