25 new minor irrigation tanks proposed in Srikakulam

Srikakulam: The state government proposed to build 25 new irrigation tanks at a cost of Rs 1490.60 crore under minor irrigation projects in Srikakulam district. The tanks will provide irrigation facility to 74, 530 acres. With an aim to utilise all available water resources effectively, the state proposed minor irrigation tanks.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wants to complete these tanks on brisk pace to utilise water resources. The tanks proposed at Siripuram village in Santhakaviti mandal to use Relligadda, a tributary to Nagavali river, another at Suravaram in the same mandal by diverting Sayannagadda rivulet water.

Two tanks proposed at Pathakunkam and Gorlepeta villages in Laveru mandal to use local rivulets water. Another tank was proposed at Chinnabagga in Kotturu mandal to divert local stream water. Two tanks to be formed at Sathivada, Madamakonda villages in Bhamini mandal on local streams.

Four tanks proposed at Mahadevavalasa, Palametta, Usirikivalasa, Kumbidi villages in Veeragattam mandal to divert water from Nagavali river and local rivulets. In total seven minor irrigation tanks were proposed in Agency mandal in the district.
