Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday announced his government’s firm resolve to transform the State as Harithandhra Pradesh.
Addressing the gathering at Swachh awards function at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium (IGMC) here, he reminded that the state had already stood number one in the country in the cleanliness drive. He gave a call to the people to devote one Saturday every month to social service. Those rendering stellar service to the noble cause would be suitably honoured with awards.
The Chief Minister ardently wished that greenery drive spread to all the cities and towns in the State. All buildings shall turn green with widespread adoption of eco-friendly measures, he exhorted. In this regard, he drew attention to the ongoing special efforts in Vijayawada city.
The State government released Rs 75 crore for city greenery and development. The other cities in the State are also progressing in many aspects. He recalled that the several cities of State bagged national-level awards recently. An amount of Rs 20 crore had been allocated for turning them dust-free and to get rid of air pollution.
Earlier, the CM garlanded the Mahatma Gandhi statue here. Participating in the Swachh Survekshan programme, he cleaned the roads along with other leaders here. He said that the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi was still relevant.
The CM said that Gandhi’s ideology brought Independence to the country. On the occasion, the CM also expressed satisfaction over the state of law and order in the state. A large number of CCTV cameras and people-friendly policing and other measures were preventing any untoward incidents and rowdyism is being crushed with an iron hand.
The government would soon distribute 1.3 lakh house pattas to poorer sections in the state, he mentioned during listing out of welfare measures for the poor. Ministers Nara Lokesh, Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and Kollu Ravindra, MLAs Gadde Rammohana Rao, Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, Mayor Koneru Sridhar, District Collector B Lakshmkantam and several officials were present.
