Vijayawada: The Vigilance department officials inspected Anganwadi centres in various parts of Krishna district on Thursday and noticed many irregularities in serving food to the children.

Under the supervision of Vigilance Superintendent of Police V Harsha Vardhan Raju, the officials inspected the Anganwadi centres at Lellapudu in Mandavalli mandal, Kadavakollu and Veeravalli centres of Vuyyuru mandal, Marepalli centre in A Konduru mandal, Penamakuru of Thotlavalluru mandal, Nawabpet centre of Penuganchiprolu mandal and Aswaraopalem of Avanigadda mandal. During the raids, they noticed diet was not being prepared as per menu, quality food is not being supplied to lactating mothers and pregnant women are not coming to the centres.

The children, mothers and beneficiaries said they were not able to consume the food due to its inferior quality. At some centres, there was no proper drinking water supply, the officials noticed. Medical kits are not being supplied regularly at some centres.

In a press release, the vigilance department said anganwadi workers are supposed to be from the same village and that rule is not being followed. They noticed some centres are not even preparing the food and instead they are getting from somewhere else. Besides, the attendance and stock registers are not being maintained properly.
