Vijayawada: Tension prevailed for some time when the municipal contract workers tried to lay siege to the Chief Minister’s camp office here on Tuesday. They raised slogans against the government seeking scrapping of GO 279.
The workers took out a rally from Lenin Centre to CM office here. The police arrested municipal workers and foiled their attempt to lay siege to the camp office.
CPM State committee member Ch Babu Rao, YSR Congress leader P Goutam Reddy, Municipal Workers Association secretary David and several leaders were present. CPM and CPI State Committee secretaries P Madhu and K Ramakrishna condemned the arrest of municipal workers.
They said that the State government was neglecting the workers though they have been agitating for justice since 12 days. They said that they would intensify the agitation if the government fails to take necessary action.
