Fifties’ systems under study for Amaravati Metro Rail
The transport system which was established decades ago in Vijayawada city for shifting of materials for the construction of Prakasam Barrage is now the study subject to the officials of Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation
Vijayawada: The transport system which was established decades ago in Vijayawada city for shifting of materials for the construction of Prakasam Barrage is now the study subject to the officials of Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation. As per the evidences, the boulders and sunnam material also known as lime mix for construction was shifted from Sunnapubattilu Centre to Prakasam Barrage by setting up a track on road in the stretch.
Now, the officials of Metro Rail are making plans to introduce similar rail transport service in the city on road. In this backdrop, they decided to study the Trunk Line service by interacting with the aged people. Already, a former employee of cooperative department shared the details recollecting the previous railway system.
Kesavalu, a 85-year-old retired officer in the cooperative department, submitted a document to the officials. As per the details, the present Tikkle Road’s original name was “Trunk Line Road”. The name has changed as Tikkle Road during the last five decades. The railway track was constructed on road from Sunnapubattilu Centre via present Tikkle road towards Krishnalankakatta up to Prakasam barrage.
The rock hill boulders and Sunnam material was shifted from Sunnapubattilu center to Prakasam barrage via the road-cum-rail stretch for barrage construction. The separate railway track was constructed in the stretch during the barrage construction period in 1950s. The railway track on road in the stretch was visible at some locations up to 1970s, said Kesavalu.
Speaking to The Hans India, he said that he was founder of first colony at the present DV Manor centre and added that Trunk Line Road name was mentioned in his colony land link documents also. He said that still he had memories about the track way.
Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director NP Ramakrishna Reddy said that they were making plans to introduce at-grade urban rail transit system in Vijayawada city to Amaravati.
He also said that they would study the previous railway track system on city roads which was established for shifting of material to Prakasam Barrage. He said that they would collect details from previous officials and departments concerned. Already we have noticed about the Trunk Line Road name’s history and details, he said.
