Tirupati: Tarun Shridhar, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry (DAH), has visited Penumallam village in Yerpedu mandal and verified Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination work carried out in the village.

Animal Husbandry Director Dr G Somasekhar, Commissioner of Fisheries Ramshankar Naik and Joint Director Dr Venkat Rao were with him. They have verified the enumeration work taken up under livestock census in the village.

The details of animals tagged under INAPH and the milk recording work carried out under Progeny Testing Programme under Government of India's National Dairy Plan-1 was verified.

They have visited the crossbred Jersey heifer calves showcased in the calf rally and gave away mineral mixture and deworming drugs to the calves.

The villagers have represented to the Secretary for sanction of livestock insurance scheme at subsidised premium rates. Tarun Shridhar accepted their plea and asked the authorities to implement insurance scheme in Chittoor as a pilot project.

Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry Dr Venkateswarlu, Veterinary Assistant Surgeons Dr Suman, Dr Murali, Dr Yaswanth, and staff of the Animal Husbandry Department of Yerpedu mandal have attended.
