Vijayawada: About 250 people from Guntur and Vijayawada participated in the Krishna Riverbed cleaning drive organised by Amaravati Walkers and Runners Association (AWARA) led by Professor Ajay Katragadda here on Sunday morning.

The programme was flagged off by BVS Kumar of State Child Welfare Committee and coordinated by child activist Anjani under the auspices of AWARA.

They walked on the lush green and soft sands upstream and on their way back downstream. They took out their bags and using trash spikes, they picked tens of bags of plastic litter strewn over such scenic trail.

Ajay recalled that since 2013, they have cleared hundreds of tonnes of garbage from the river and said that if the local Municipality cooperates and supports them, the river would become a walkers paradise.
