Guntur: Renowned scientist Guntur Nageswara Rao, hailing from the district, has been appointed as Atomic Energy Regulatory Board chairman. He will continue in the post for three years. The Government of India issued a notification to this effect. Hailing from Chiluvuru village in the district, he is now working as chairman, Project Design Safety Committee, Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor in Kalpakkam.

Nageswara Rao studied up to Class 8 in the Chiluvuru government school and later joined in the ZP High School of Revendrapadu. He completed PUC in Andhra Loyola College in Vijayawada and Electrical Engineering in Anantapuram before joined M.Tech in IIT, Chennai.

While studying M Tech, he got job in the Atomic Energy department in Bombay. Wherever he was posted, he improved performance of nuclear power corporation projects.

Nageswara Rao bagged various awards in recognition of his services from the government. He was promoted as NPCIL director In 2007and posted in Bombay. He got distinguished scientist position in 2009, which is a rare opportunity. He bagged Nuclear Excellence Award from World Association of Nuclear Operators in 2011.

Nageswara Rao solved problems in the nuclear power projects and contributed their smooth operations. While working in Rajasthan unit-5,he operated the unit 765 days without a break. This is a record in the country and third record in the world. In recognition of his services the Central government appointed him as AERB chairman and issued notification.
