Guntur: Civil Supplies Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao on Wednesday inspected the quality of Chandranna Christmas Kanukalu to be distributed to white rationcard holders through the fair price shops at MLS point at RTC Bus Stand in the city. He inspected quality of red gram, jaggery pieces, wheat flour, ghee and palmolein packets and checked weight of packets and tasted toddy pieces.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the government was distributing the Chandranna Chistmas, Sankranti and Ramzan Kanukalu to poor people to celebrate the festivals. He said the government will distribute Christmas Kanukalu to 15 lakh families and Sankranti Kanukalu to 47lakh families.

He said that the government was using technology to check irregularities in distribution of essential commodities and added that every month on 16, 17 and 18 fair price dealers will give door delivery to those who are not able to come to the fair price shops to take essential commodities.

He said the government estimated 47-lakh paddy yield during the kharif season and so far 5.5 lakh metric tonnes of paddy was purchased from farmers. He felt that Cotton Corporation of India was implementing the tough norms for purchasing cotton from farmers as a result the farmers are facing a lot of problems.

AP State Civil Supplies Corporation managing director Surya Kumar said that they will distribute Christmas Kanukalu from December 1 and added that quality will not be compromised in Chdranna Kanukalu besides the government was supplying fortified salt packets to check anaemia among women and girl children.
