Vijayawada: The state government has decided to give cash subsidy of Rs 10 lakh to the small producers, who produce low budget movies in the state with less than Rs 4 crore. Besides, the government will reimburse the GST collected by it on movie tickets.

As part of efforts to boost the film industry in the state, the government released GO No 116 in this regard.Addressing a media conference here on Thursday, Ambica Krishna, chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Film Television and Theatre Development Corporation Limited (APSFTTDC) said Andhra Pradesh has many beautiful locations to shoot the movies and appealed to the film producers and directors to avail the facilities.

He said the state government would reimburse the GST collected by the commercial taxes department on sale of tickets to the small producers, who produce the movies with less than Rs 4 crore. He said the subsidy is restricted to only 15 movies per year.

A special committee appointed by the government will select the movies eligible to subsidy. Referring to conditions set by the government to give subsidies, he said the film production company should register its name in Andhra Pradesh and take the GST number. The company should pay a fee of Rs 25,000 to the (APSFTTDC) and the total film should be made in the state only.

He said the film producer must inform the APSFTTDC in advance about the recording, re-recording, dubbing and other works related to post production work and added that the film budget should be below Rs 4 crore only. Stating that shooting for nearly 20 small budget films started in the state, he expressed hope that the film industry would grow in the coming years in the state.
