Ongole: Acting on a tip off, the Childline 1098 staff and officials of education department and the police department stopped the marriage of a 12- year-old girl with a 26-year old man on Friday.
According to BV Sagar, the HELP programmme officer and para-legal volunteer, he received the information from an unknown person about the proposed child marriage which is arranged at Motumala village in Kothapatnam mandal.
He forwarded the information to the Childline 1098, DEO VS Subbarao and Kothapatnam SI Basavaraju. The DEO informed the Kothapatnam ZPH School headmaster Y Venkata Rao and instructed him to go with the police officials and stop the marriage.
