Kurnool: In a tragic incident, a pregnant woman immolated her two children before setting herself on fire at Pandirlapalle village in Banaganapalle constituency on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Venkata Lachamma (35), Pavan Kumar (13) and Pavani (9). According to Nandivargam police, the couple Shiva Ramudu and Venkata Lachamma had two children.
They were eking out their livelihood as agriculture labourers and were facing some domestic problems. Both used to quarrel frequently. On Thursday morning, Ramudu picked up a quarrel with Lachamma and acted in an aggressive manner, said SI Hari Prasad.
Lachamma, who could not digest the insult by her husband decided to end life. She poured kerosene on her two children and set them on fire. Later, she also set herself on fire. Neighbours could not save them.
“On receiving information, we rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to Banaganapalle government hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered based on the complaint lodged by the family members of Lachamma. A manhunt was also launched to nab the absconding Ramudu. It is learnt that Lachamma was 6-month pregnant,’’ the SI said.
