Visakhapatnam: The City Cyber Crime police arrested a Nigerian national for duping over four Vizag citizens by posting fake advertisements on the e-classified paltform OLX.

According to the sources, the arrested was identified as 31-year-old Chuks John, staying in Bengaluru and he duped to the tune of over Rs four lakh by promising to sell SUV cars and bikes. Speaking to The Hans India, CCS Inspector V Gopinath said that one youth in city came across the advertisement (great deal, months old SUV car on sale for Rs four lakh) posted by one person on OLX in September 2018.

The youth called the mobile number mentioned alongside the seller’s username. A day after the discussion over phone, the youth had deposited Rs 2.5 lakh as an advanced payment in a bank account to purchase a SUV car. Similarly, another person from Vizag deposited over Rs 50,000 as an advance payment in the same account to purchase the vehicle. Weeks after the advance payment, the youths realised that they were duped by the cybercriminal and approached the police.

Based on the complaint from the victims, the police investigated the case and came to know that Nigerian national Chuks John, who is the mastermind behind the fraud, Gopinath added. The Nigerian was arrested in Bengaluru and further investigation is on, he added.
