Visakhapatnam: Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) won the City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain (CITIIS) Challenge CITIIS commendation certificate and also received Rs 52 crore to develop all its schools with modern facilities. Commissioner of GVMC M Hari Narayanan received the certificate and Rs 52 crore funds from Union Minister of Housing and Urban Infrastructure Haradip Singh Puri at a meeting held at New Delhi on Tuesday.

Giving a complete re-look to all the GVMC schools, the corporation renovated the buildings, toilet blocks, provided water and shaping up the grounds with full play items under the name of Smart Campus Project.

Under the project, for the last one and half years, the GVMC is reshaping its 146 schools in the city. The works at KDPM School, China Waltair School, Jalaripeta School and some other schools already completed and now attracting the students and parents with corporate infrastructure.
As a part of the project, the GVMC has submitted proposals to the centre urging funds to the tune of Rs 65 crore to develop all the schools in the city. ‘

The Union Housing and Urban Infrastructure ministry and other officials visited the Visakhapatnam and witnessed the radical change in the municipal schools and appreciated the GMVC, which provided complete infrastructure, play equipment, toilet blocks and drinking and running water at the schools.

Based on the report the Union Ministry sanctioned Rs 52 crore to develop all the schools. While receiving the certificate, Commissioner, GMVC M Hari Narayanan informed that with the help of the central funds, all the corporation schools would be re-built and provide complete infrastructure and play equipment. He thanked the government for the support to the municipal corporation schools.
