The Geneva Motor Show in March this year housed two of Suzuki’s concepts including the iK-2 premium hatchback and iM-4 mini SUV that will be making it to production in the future. While the iK-2 concept has been christened as the Baleno, news now comes in that the iM-4 concept will be called the ‘Ignis’ when it hits the assembly line.

Interestingly, much like the Baleno, the Ignis is also a defunct moniker in the automaker’s lineup having been discontinued in 2006 and is now making a comeback to the global market. As per this new rendering emerged online, the production spec Suzuki Ignis looks very similar to the concept, but sans the funky bits of course.

The iM-4 concept measures 3693 mm in length, similar to an average sized hatchback and gets pronounced wheel arches, bold front fascia and a boxy profile. The rendering shows some very funky alloy wheels on the mini SUV that look good on the model. The diagonal vents in the rear quarter from the concept has been given a miss here.

The Suzuki Ignis mini SUV will be drawing power from multiple engine options including a 1.0-litre three-cylinder BoosterJet petrol that will debut on the new Baleno as well as the Euro-spec 1.2-litre DualJet petrol. Diesel power could come from the familiar 1.3-litre diesel unit.

The discontinued Suzuki Ignis was a hatchback replacing the Cultus and served in several markets including Europe, Australia and parts of Asia. The all new Ignis is expected to be targeted at similar markets while an Indian launch is uncertain, considering Maruti is already developing the YBA sub 4-metre compact SUV.
