Peugeot Fractal sound-themed concept car is an electric urban coupe. An audio extravaganza, it collates sound quality to improve drive experience.
The compact Peugeot Fractal concept car annotates with a sound signature sounds like. Europe warrants that electric cars emit sound from 2019 so road users know a silent car is approaching. Peugeot Fractal concept is a take on what that electric car sound maybe in the near future. The concept also lets Peugeot work on affects of sound to improve the driving experience.
Peugeot Fractal factors in external and internal sounds. Sound profiling gives common car operations a new outlook. Opening and closing of doors, acceleration and deceleration sounds are focused upon. Choices could be wide enough to let users choose sound options.
Fractal features a 30 kWh lithium-ion battery to power front and rear axle electric motors, which together deliver up to 150 kW (204 hp). Weighing in at 1,000 kg (2,205 lb), the compact concept accelerates from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.8 seconds. Variable ground clearance means the small car can adapt to varying terrains.
It stands at a length of 3.81 m and width of 1.77 m. The cabriolet has a removable roof and functionality is controlled by a Samsung Gear S smartwatch. This makes information related to the battery charger, remaining charge time, interior temperature and vehicle location easy to view. One-touch access opens doors, and users can customise air conditioning and sound system.
The rear features an LED strip that reflects battery charge level and doubles up as rear lights. The sound system works in compliance with Peugeot i-Cockpit that offers a sporty driving position. The cockpit area houses a compact steering wheel, head-up display, and touchscreen interface.
Surround sound in the interior stands undisturbed by tyres that minimize interior noise. Car interior material selection is inspired by recording studios so internal acoustics are bettered. A two-channel Subpac tactile bass system placed in the seats helps feel and hear the bass.
Peugeot StelLab research unit designed a “9.1.2” sound system for Fractal. The naming denotes a numerical reference to number of speakers, bass-boxes and other sound elements used.
