Launch expected to take place by September 2016.Showcased as a concept back at the 2014 Auto Expo, the most powerful Pulsar has finally entered test phase. Confirmed for launch later this year, the new Bajaj Pulsar 400 CS was spied on test near the company’s Pune plant.

It will be powered by the same 373 cc single cylinder liquid cooled FI engine which also powers the KTM Duke 390 and the RC 390. Onboard the KTM twins, this engine is rated to deliver 44 PS at 9,000 rpm and 35 Nm torque at 7,000 rpm.

Though the engine will be same, it will be re-tuned to suite the new Bajaj Pulsar’s purpose. CS in CS 400 stands for Cruising Sports. This very well means that Bajaj will tune the engine to deliver lesser punch as compared to what is seen on the KTM twins. Bajaj will also give their patented Triple Spark DTSi tech to the 373 cc mill of KTM. This will result in higher fuel efficiency.

Speaking about its design, there are a few changes as against the concept which was showcased over two years ago. The production-ready 400 CS does not get the upside-down front forks (concept CS 400 had upside down forks), single seat of the concept has been replaced by split seats with minimal raise in height. Alloy design too is not as the one of concept.

Other than that, most parts are retained as it is, this includes the LED headlamp, LED taillight, dual channel ABS, same exhaust, same placement of digital speedometer and gear indicator on fuel tank while tachometer, trip meter, time, odometer, fuel level, etc on the digital instrument cluster.

With Pulsar CS 400, Bajaj is aiming at taking on the likes of Royal Enfield and Harley Davidson Street 500 (export market). Launch price is expected to be in the range of INR 2 lakh.
