Like its French counterpart, the redi-Go was primarily developed in India with a very high localization. The Datsun redi-Go small car based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-A platform has made its world premiere in Delhi. The most affordable Datsun will be going on sale in India later this year and will be produced alongside its platform-mate, the Renault Kwid at the Alliance’s Oragadam plant.

The hatchback adopts a fresh design which was previewed by the redi-Go concept at 2014 Auto Expo. A tall stance and angular elements are completely different from the Kwid’s boxy SUV-ish character. Though the two cars have a lot of mechanical bits in common including the engine, they cater to audience bases with different tastes.

The interior design is also fresh with a simple grey dashboard with unique centre console and a chunky steering wheel. The top-end redi-Go is equipped with driver air-bag, LED daytime running lights, front power windows, AC and audio system.

The Datsun redi-Go is powered by the same 800 cc three-cylinder petrol engine which puts out 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque when mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Apart from picking up up a fight with its own sibling, the redi-Go will be pitted against the likes of Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon. Since the Go and Go+ didn’t quite manage to match the company’s sales expectations, the redi-Go shoulders a heavy responsibility of increasing the brand’s acceptance in the country’s small car space which is dominated by Maruti.

The customers will benefit from Datsun’s unique financing scheme. Like the Kwid, there will be a wide array of customization kits. Bookings will start on the first of May with deliveries slated to commence in first week of June. Prices will be announced at a later stage.
