Still some time away from launch, the new Mercedes-Benz Urban eTruck has been showcased in Stuttgart. Though camouflaged, Mercedes Benz has revealed almost all important aspects of their future urban truck.

Designed for use in urban environments and promising zero emissions, Mercedes urban electric truck has an admissible total weight of 26 tonnes, a max range of 200 kms and is the first clean energy truck of its kind.

Set to enter production at the start of the next decade, Mercedes-Benz Urban eTruck will be fitted with three lithium ion battery modules with combined capacity of 212kWh and offering a driving range of 200 kms. The company confirms that this is the standard mileage demanded from local deliver trucks.

For increase of range, more battery modules can be added while the eTruck will possess European standard Combined Charging System Type 2 connectors for 100kW charging power. A complete charge will be accomplished in 2-3 hours via a DC fast charge connector (SAE J1772 Type 2) while the electric motor attached to each hub on the rear axle offers 167 hp and 368 lb/ft each. From the safety point of view, these batteries are located inside the frame to protect them from crash.

With many European countries that include London and Paris already considering ban on internal combustion engines within city centers, these eTrucks could play a vital role in distribution of goods in urban regions.
