BMW has revealed its first compact sports sedan christened the 1 Series Sedan in China. It is the sedan version of BMW’s 1 Series hatchback to take on the rivals such as A3 sedan. As of now, the model has been exclusively built only for the Chinese market and also will be manufactured in China only.

1 Series Sedan is the first ever sedan of BMW to be based on the UKL1 platform and also to feature the front wheel drive option. It looks very similar to the concept model showcased at the 2015 Guangzhou Motor Show. The car gets dual round LED headlamps, V-shaped air dam grille at the bottom, gloss black coloured sporty bumper and so on.

BMW stated, “1 Series Sedan will be equipped with BMW ConnectedDrive technologies that provide customers unparalleled convenience, rich infotainment, and significantly enhanced safety. The sedan will be based on the UKL1 platform that underpins all the new Minis and the X1 crossover. This also means that the sedan will be front-wheel-driven and it is expected to get a range of three-and four-cylinder petrol as well as diesel engines.”

The specifications and engine options of the car are not yet officially revealed by BMW but as stated above the 1 series sedan is expected to be offered with 3 and 4-cylinder, 1.5 to 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engine options. Transmission will be offered via a 6-speed Manual or 8-speed Steptronic automatic gearboxes.

Whether BMW will launch its new 1 Series Compact Sports Sedan in India is still a question mark. Hope the all-new BMW sedan will hit the Indian shores soon.
