The Mahindra XUV Aero concept which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 has received some positive feedback from the audience. Speaking to media in Delhi, Dr. Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, M&M, said that the company would like to launch it and initial engineering work has already been done.

However, he highlighted that the company has not finalized anything about the coupe crossover’s business viability. What this means is, if Mahindra is convinced of the Aero’s sales potential and demand, it could enter production.

It’s challenging for the Indian automakers to come up with niche premium products like global OEMs do because volumes don’t justify the high level of investment required. For global OEMs, the size of the market is big enough on an international level. That said, if the Aero gets green signal, it would take around 2 years to hit the market.

The XUV Aero which was designed in-house is essentially a coupe version of the popular XUV500. Mahindra’s subsidiary Pininfarina played a role in constructing the concept which has a swooping roofline, suicide doors, and LED headlights. The concept also previewed Mahindra’s future connectivity features.

The Mahindra XUV Aero concept is powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine which produces 210 PS. The car is claimed to be capable of accelerating from 0-60 kmph in under 6 seconds. The concept also offered multiple driving modes to highlight its premium positioning.
