Maruti Suzuki has announced that they have crossed 15 lakh mark as far as car exports are concerned. With made-in-India Maruti cars to be exported in 1987/88, the company has come a long way forward, especially in recent times.
It took Maruti Suzuki about 25 years to export the first 10 lakh units, while the company has exported the next five lakh units in just 4 years and 3 months. Maruti Suzuki have boosted their exports in recent years, making India a global hub for some of their cars.
For example, the Baleno which was launched last year in India, is only produced in India- making it the first Suzuki car to be exclusively produced in India and exported to the world, including first world countries in Europe, Japan, etc.
Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki, Mr Kenichi Ayukawa said: “We are happy to reach the 1.5 million milestone for our exports. Maruti Suzuki has consistently maintained a presence in international markets, regularly offering new products and reaching out to new countries. Our products like Zen, A-Star, Maruti 800 and Alto have made a mark overseas, including in the most competitive markets of Europe”.
Reaching 15 lakh export figure is significant for the company. The company has found good customer acceptance in both European and non- European countries. Of the total cars exported by Maruti suzuki, 75% were to European countries at the end of 2010.
During the past year exports to non European countries increased from 23% to 66% as Maruti Suzuki has increased their export market base to over 100 countries across the globe. Maruti’s most exported cars in the last fiscal are – Alto, Swift, Celerio, Baleno, and Ciaz.
