Tirupati: The local chapter of Samaikyandhra Joint Action Committee on Tuesday unanimously decided to intensify the Samaikyandhra agitation by laying siege to Tirupati-Tirumala on September 14 and 15. Top TTD officials are engaged in serious discussions with the JAC leaders to convince them to exempt Tirumala from agitations or to make alternate arrangements to ferry pilgrims to Tirumala in its own buses.
Disclosing details of the TTD-JAC meeting, Y Ramachandra Reddy, the convener of the Gazetted Officers’ Association, said all vehicles entering Tirupati would be stopped on the outskirts. No vehicle would be allowed on the Tirupati roads. “We appeal to pilgrims to postpone their journey for two days. We won’t obstruct those going on foot. We don’t want to create any problems for pilgrims. We request them to extend their solidarity with the Samaikyandhra agitation by postponing their tours,” he stressed. Reddy also said that all JACs have decided to request the private jeep and taxi operators to stop all their operations voluntarily on Saturday and Sunday between Tirupati and Tirumala for the cause of Samaikyandhra.
