Hansika gets busy in T’wood

With no Telugu films under her belt in 2013, Hansika is on a signing spree in the industry that has witnessed her debut. With films opposite Ravi Teja, Naga Chaitanya and Manchu Manoj, she would be the actress to look out for this 2014.

Much before the recent release ‘Pandavulu Pandavulu Tummeda’ (PPT), actress Hansika Motwani had no Telugu releases last year barring ‘Something Something’ which was partly shot in Telugu. In an industry that requires her to look million bucks every time she makes a public appearance forget alone films, she found few takers as soon as she gained some kilos. With no Telugu projects in her kitty, the petite actress had to shift her attention to the Tamil industry last year. Keeping a check on her physique, she has done Tamil flicks like ‘Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru’, ‘Settai’, ‘Singham 2’ and ‘Biriyani’.

Smiles her ‘Biriyani’ co-star Karthi, “When we’ve started the film she was chubby and when she surfaced on the sets after the first schedule, I was in for a surprise. I felt her younger sister dropped by the sets only to realise that it was Hansika. She lost 12 kilos in the interim. We had to order for another set of costumes as the first ones hardly fitted her.”

Indeed, the actress has turned fitness conscious. “She has been on a strict diet and is frequently hitting the gym. She has realized that she has lost good number of Telugu projects because of her weight and is keen not to repeat the same mistake again. She is in top shape right now and ‘PPT’ is a testimony to it,” says a source close to the actress.

And the results are showing now as the actress is already a part of three interesting Telugu projects. While she has started shooting for Ravi Teja-starrer ‘Power’, she would commence shooting alongside Naga Chaitanya for ‘Durga’ shortly. “It’s not just a glamorous character that she is playing; she also has a good scope to prove her acting credentials,” insists Srinivas Reddy, director of ‘Durga’. Besides the two star flicks, she has agreed to be a part of Manchu Manoj’s next with Nageswara Reddy. It would go on floors this month.

Adds the source, “She has turned cautious with the projects she is choosing. After her flick with Simbu, ‘Vallu’, delayed by considerable time, she has decided to accept projects that touch the finish line. As of now, she has stopped signing Tamil films as her Telugu commitments will keep her busy till good part of this year.”

On the personal front too, things seem to be settling down for the actress. After an alleged breakup with her boyfriend Simbu, the actress seems to have mended the differences. She was recently spotted celebrating his birthday in Chennai.
