Rom-coms suit me: Ashwin

After winning accolades for his work in ‘Kerintha’, Sumanth Ashwin is set for another love tale ‘Columbus’. “Set in a campus backdrop, it has elements of drama and comedy in equal proportions.

I play a lively character who will discover love as the film unfolds. It is a fresh take on love, and we tried to showcase a new dimension to it,” shares the actor. Talking about debutant director R Samala, the actor says, “Although he’s a newcomer, he has dealt the subject well.

Since he is also a writer, his perspective and presentation was new and his colloquial dialogues will be a big pull,” says the actor who is glad that he continues to relive college moments while shooting for his films. The actor has no qualms starring in a slew of rom-coms.

“I think the genre suits my personality well. Though I’ve been doing romantic entertainers, I’m showing variations in terms of my characterisations and scripts. It’s very important to reinvent regularly so that you carve a niche for yourself. Also, I’m growing as an actor with every film,” explains Sumanth.
